How much are you paying for your cable bill? If you haven’t looked it over in a while, you are probably paying too much! I recently decided to trim down my monthly bills and #1 on my list was my cable bill. Did you know I was paying over $190 per month for cable?! Of course you didn’t and neither did I! Why didn’t I know, because I wasn’t paying attention. I have my bills on automatic payments so I won’t have to worry about whether or not I pay them on time. I do not want that late fee lining the pockets of the cable behemoth called Comcast/Xfinity (such a nifty new name). Well, that pretty much backfired! I wasn’t paying attention and when my random deal price was up which I had to practically beg to get forever ago (and what a load of baloney that one is! If they liked their “loyal” customers, they would offer us the same awesome deals they offer “new customers only”, but I digress) they really nailed me. It jumped from $132 to $194.25! Yikes! It was time to do some research!
The other day I came across an article about Social Security and spousal benefits. According to my
not in the least bit scientific poll, 4.5 out of 5 people I asked knew nothing about this spousal benefit (1 person got half the answer correct). Realizing this, I decided to do a little research in hopes to spread the awareness and perhaps help a few people increase their social security benefits.
Spousal benefits apply to current spouses, widowed spouses and ex spouses. Spouses who never worked or have low earnings may get up to half of a retired worker’s full benefit. If you’re eligible for both your own retirement benefits and spousal benefits, Social Security will always pay your own benefits first. If your benefits as a spouse are higher than your own retirement benefit, you’ll get a combination of benefits equaling the higher spouse benefit.
I don’t know about you, but I very rarely go anywhere without my smartphone. I use it to take a picture of my grocery list hanging on the fridge and use that for reference at the grocery store. I take pictures of things I find on my computer that I want to buy or make (recipe ingredients or craft list) and will refer to when I am shopping. I snap a photo of my broken door lock so I know what replacement I am looking for when I get to the store. Always having my phone on me also helps me save money. I have many money-saving apps that I use when I am out shopping or when I am looking for a gift or looking to buy just about anything! “There’s an app for that” is a well-known mantra! I have come up with a list of my top money-saving apps to share the wealth! For your iPhone or iPad you can download these apps from the App Store in iTunes. For your Android device, you can download these apps through Google Play.
Looking to make money while controlling the number of hours you work? Sick and tired of working for someone else? Have you ever thought about Direct Sales? You know…”Be Your Own Boss”!
The amount of home party companies is astonishing! Having been in direct sales back in the late 80’s, I can attest to the fact that there is money to be made. Look at these statistics compiled by the Direct Selling Association. The amount of sellers went from 15.9 million in 2012 to 16.8 million associates in 2013 (the latest available data). 82% of these sellers report a positive experience with direct sales.
Winter = Cold = Energy Consumption = $$
The Farmer’s Almanac was right. They predicted a long and snowy winter for the North East and that is exactly what we are getting!! With this crazy winter weather here in New England, we have spent more time these past 3 weeks shoveling, plowing and trying to stay warm then practically all last winter! Cold weather means we increase our need for heat and electricity and unfortunately for us, the power companies increased their rates to coincide with our needs! My electric bill practically doubled over last month’s bill! Because of this, we have decided to take some steps to lower our electric bill and save money this winter.
