The Origin of Father’s Day
Did you know Father’s Day wasn’t a national holiday until 1972? According to History.com, a church in West Virginia sponsored the nation’s first event to honor fathers. On July 5, 1908 in this church, the Sunday sermon honored the memory of 362 men who had died in an explosion at the Fairmont Coal Company mines. It was a one time event and did not become a holiday.
What does one do when they have been fired. Do they curl up and have a pity party or do they try to figure out what they really want in life. After 7.5 years at a job I was very good at, I was let go. They gave me some song and dance about me allowing something to happen, which, by the way was beyond my control. The real reason behind them letting me go was for the usual reason tenured employees are let go ….I made too much money. I understand why companies do this but then again, I don’t. Whatever the reason, I now need to figure a few things out.
Which brings me to this…. a blog… about scrutinizing life. Do I scrutinize my life, or life in general? Do I take some time off or do I go right back at it? Do I try to achieve what I have always dreamed of? Or do I go back to the mundane life of following the rules of others, go back to making money for others? These are the questions I will be asking in the next month or so as I begin a journey to scrutinize life.
