Tropical Deck Makeover~ScrutinizingLife.com

Tropical Summer Deck

With summer in full swing I figured it was time to share our “island get-away” with you!  Yes, I know there isn’t any sandy beach and water nearby but we have 2 fountains that gurgle and add that calming sound of running water.  That’s almost as nice, right? With limited time to travel, we do our best to make our own little sanctuary on our deck!

When it comes to privacy, condo living equals zero privacy! Because of this we put up a temporary bamboo “wall” every spring and block out the world…well sorta. We still hear all the kids and neighbors, but if we play island music really loud we can pretend we are far away!

Pot Up A Pincushion | www.ScrutinizingLife.com | Perfect Teacher's Gift, Mother's Day Gift, Crafter's Gift

Pot Up A Pincushion

This adorable pincushion flower-pot would make a much appreciated Teacher’s Gift to some lucky teacher!  Or maybe it would be the perfect child’s gift to give to a loving Aunt or Nana.  Who ever you decide to make this for I’m sure they will love it!  It’s pretty and practical!

To give the pot its mossy look you will sponge-paint coordinating colors of green. Brown velvet (or whatever material you prefer) is used for the “dirt” cushion cover and pretty ribbon roses adorn the top. This gift is super easy to make and, if you are a crafter/sewer, you probably have many of the items already on hand.

Mother’s Day Welcome Wreath

Mother's Day Wreath | The Living With Style Blog Hop | www.scrutinizinglife.com

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Lisa Milligan at Harmony and Happiness on our Living with Style Blog Hop. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you make sure to see and learn from all of the articles featured here today.

For today’s Mother’s Day inspired blog hop I have selected one of my favorite DIY Wreaths. The “cut the squares with pinking shears” wreath my sister and I used to make years ago…. for every holiday imaginable I might add!  It had been so long since I made one {20+ years!} I had to find out the details for the supplies from her!  It is very easy to make and so pretty when finished.
